This magnificent statue of Usnisavijaya is made by the artisans of Nepal. It is made of brass and a small part is silver plated.
Usnisavijaya is a Buddha of longevity in Buddhism. She wears an image of Vairocana in her headdress. Along with Amitayus and Sitatara, she constitutes the three long-life Buddhas. She is one of the well known Buddhist deities in Nepal, Tibet and Mongolia.
She is described as residing in the cave of the caitya ("shrine") and can be identified by the small figure of Buddha seated on a lotus, which she invariably holds in one of her eight hands.
Usnisavijaya stands in the hollow of a sacred building; she is white, three-faced, three-eyed, eight-armed, adorned with all finery; on the moon of a full-blown lotus she is seated, her legs closely crossed, in the manner of the Buddhas; her first face is white; the one on the right is yellow, the one on the left is blue and presses his lip with the hollow of his teeth; with her four right hands, she holds the universal thunderbolt, the Amitabha Buddha placed on a red lotus, the arrow, and makes the gesture of charity; with her four left hands she holds the bow, the lace with the raised index finger, makes the gesture of fearlessness and holds the makeshift vase Vairocana sits in her tiara; of divine stuff are made her skirt and her shawl; let us contemplate her, thus adorned, in the midst of a glory of whiteness.
