This beautiful Mahakala statue is made by the craftman of Nepal. It is made of brass.

Mahakala is a dharma-protecting Dharmapala deity in Vajrayāna Buddhism and also one of the names of Shiva in Hinduism. Mahakala is practiced and revered in all "tantric" schools of Tibetan Buddhism.

There are several kinds of forms of Mahakala who as a protector emanates from the tantra essence he is in charge of.

Mahakala, among its other manifestations, is most popular for its six-armed form. He has three eyes that represent the past, present and future.

A crown of five skulls rests on his head, where the skulls represent the five poisonous illusions of anger, desire, ignorance, jealousy, and pride.

The deity has six arms, signifying the successful completion of the six perfections (morality, peace, vigor, meditation, insightful wisdom, and generosity). It exhibits the sword, kapala and damaru on the right and the shield, dharmachakra mudra and skulls on the left.

Signification:
