This magnificent statue of shiva nataraja is made by the artisans of India. It is in bronze.

Nataraja is an epithet of Shiva who performs a cosmic dance called tandava, "dance of bliss".

He has four arms.
He holds in his upper right hand a drum (damaru) symbolizing the primordial sound of the creation of the universe, in his left hand a flame symbolizing the destruction of the world. His second right hand is in abhaya-mudrā, a gesture of protection. His lower left hand shows his raised leg symbolizing hope for liberation (moksha).

The dwarf figure trampled by his right foot represents apasmara purusha (illusion, which leads humanity astray).

It is surrounded by flames which symbolize the succession of cosmic cycles.

On his right side, entangled with one of the flying locks of his hair near his forehead, is usually the Ganges personified as a goddess, from Hindu mythology where the danger of a mighty river is creatively linked to a calm river for the regeneration of life.
