This beautiful statue of Vajradhara-Prajnaparamita is made by the artisans of Nepal. It is made of brass and a small part is silver plated.
The Statue represents the union of the wisdom of the method. Vajradhara holds the vajra (thunderbolt) and the ghanta (bell) in his hands. He and his consort Prajnaparamita are depicted in yab-yum, with Vajradhara representing method and Prajnaparamita representing wisdom. Prajnaparamita sits on Vajradhara's lap with her legs around his body.
In his hands, he holds an oval bowl and a gri-gug, a crescent-shaped knife symbolizing the breaking of all material attachments. Together, the two deities represent the transcendence of duality and the coalescence of opposites.
Yab-yum is a pair of Tibetan Tantra deities commonly present in Vajrayana Buddhism. They are generally represented in the union position of the lotus symbolizing the non-dual imbrication of the two masculine principles (representing compassion, the adapted or skilful means or method) and feminine (representing wisdom, emptiness).
