This beautiful statue of Yamantaka is made by the craftsmen of Nepal. It is made of brass and a small part is silver plated.

Yamantaka is the most wrathful form of Manjushri.
His name is made up of Yama (the lord of death) and Antaka (the destroyer of death).

Also known as Vajrabhairava, he is a fierce meditative buffalo-headed deity of Vajrayana Buddhism. He assumed this form in order to defeat Yama, the Lord of Death who arrogantly interfered with karma by claiming victims before their time was up.

The yidam and his associate depicted in ecstatic union and standing in alidhasana on trampled figures atop a lotus base, the yidam with a fierce buffalo head with fiery braids wrapped in thick ropes, further rendered with six faces fierce humans around the back and topped with another fierce human face and the head of Manjushri.
